Audit on non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure along with an introduction of proforma for acute NIV prescription

چکیده
Hypercapnic respiratory failure is a cause of significant morbidity. It occurs in 20% patients who are admitted with exacerbation chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Non-Invasive-Ventilation (NIV) mandatory treatment modality for them. The timely and accurate commencement along the appropriate maintenance weaning NIV crucial. In this audit cohort, most acute-NIV standards were not met as per British Thoracic Society recommendations. Late detection, poor knowledge acute NIV-Protocol, has led to these suboptimal cohort. Therefore, we have suggested an NIV-Proforma overcome them expecting good outcome.

Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) as an aid to rehabilitation in acute respiratory disease
BACKGROUND Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) can increase exercise tolerance, reduce exercise induced desaturation and improve the outcome of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic respiratory disease. It is not known whether it can be applied to increase exercise capacity in patients admitted with non-hypercapnic acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD). We investigated the acceptability a...
متن کاملManagement of respiratory failure associated with acute exacerbation of COPD and the role of non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disorder common to both developed and developing countries. The major risk factor for the development of COPD remains cigarette smoking. Once the disease is established, it leads to rapid decline in lung function superimposed on slow age related decline in lung function. The course of the disease is characterized by recurrent episodes of infecti...
متن کاملLong-term Non-invasive Ventilation (niv) for Copd Patients with Chronic Respiratory Failure
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major health issue worldwide, with disease burden, healthcare costs, and mortality rates all significant and increasing. Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is used to manage acute exacerbations of COPD associated with mild-to-moderate acidosis. Continuing NIV after discharge can reduce the risk of re-exacerbation, and decrease hospitalisation rates ...
متن کاملNIV-Helmet in Severe Hypoxemic Acute Respiratory Failure
Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a method to be applied in acute respiratory failure, given the possibility of avoiding tracheal intubation and conventional ventilation. A previous healthy 5-month-old boy developed low-grade intermittent fever, flu-like symptoms, and dry cough for 3 days. On admission, he showed severe respiratory distress with SpO2/FiO2 ratio of 94. Subsequent evaluation ident...
متن کاملNon-invasive ventilation in acute respiratory failure
Non-invasive mechanical ventilation has been increasingly used to avoid or serve as an alternative to intubation. Compared with medical therapy, and in some instances with invasive mechanical ventilation, it improves survival and reduces complications in selected patients with acute respiratory failure. The main indications are exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiogenic ...
